Eden was sleeping in an alley under the remains of a cardboard box, when he was awakened by heavy footsteps near his location. He woke up immediately, his attuned hearing coming in handy. The footsteps belonged to a party of mercenaries. About five of them to be exact. They were all holding their weapons in hand. The one nearest the front was holding the point of a rather large sword near his throat with both hands.
"were gonna get a really good payout from this one." He began to move the sword back to strike, and Eden bolted upright immediately. He drew his own sword and prepared to defend himself.
"You have one chance to turn around now, or you will all die." The young half-demon looked very out of place with his shabby robes and old and well-worn sword in his hand. On a grown swordmaster, it may have made him look like a seasoned warrior, but as he was only a teenager by human standards, it just looked silly.
"Yea, sure kid." The mercenary brought his sword all the way up in a flash to its normal combat position and the rest of his team fell into similar stances, waiting for his command. The mercenary leader whispered behind his shoulder so that Eden could not hear, but he did not take into acount how attuned and sensitive his ears were, and Eden heard every word.
"On my signal, were all going to charge his at once. While hes surprised and off balance, I want you two," he gestured to the two furthest, one with a sword and one with a flail, "to run behind him and surround him. Then he'll be trapped as long as were careful and dont let him fly, and we'll be well fed for months to come on this payout." The mercenaries all prepared themselves to carry out his plan, when to their surprise, the were not the ones surprising. Eden jumped up diagonally, hit a wall and jumped off it so fast, it looked more like a bounce, and attempted to run the leader through with his sword. The leader saw him coming just a second too early and dodged, but the mercenary to his right was killed on the spot.
"one down, four to go," whispered Eden under his breath. He pulled his sword out and blocked a hit from a flail, but his sword blade became tangled up in its chain and he could not pull it out. While he was trying, one behind him with an axe attempted a hit. Eden saw it, let go of his sword and tumbled, letting the man with the flail take the axe to the chest. While the axe wielder was petrified by his own doing, Eden grabbed his sword from the now loose chain of the flail and ran the blade through his abs. The blade, already lubricated with the blood of the first kill, ran through smoothly.
"Three down, two to go." As Eden was doing this, the leader had not been just sitting around, he had been looking for an opening. He found it when Eden stabbed the axe wielder and took it. He attempted a slash that would have cut Eden in half, but Eden jumped out of the way, forced to let go of his precious sword for the second time this battle. The sword of the leader banged against the ground and did not touch Eden. The sword wielder and the last remaining save for the leader attempted a lunge at Eden, but Eden jumped to the side, bounced off the wall again, and grabbed on to the man with his arms around his chest and his legs around him back. He then bit down on his neck, forcing his fangs deep into the jugular and feeling the flow of wark blood in his mouth, the taste which he had so long ago forgotten, and felt the life leaving his opponent, the victim's spark of life extinquished. He let him drop to the floor, and impowered by the taste of blood and the awakening of his demon side, Eden picked up both his sword and his opponents, and wielded the both.
"Four down."
The leader saw what happened and was now scared to the point where it almost hurt of the thing he had been so sure would be an easy kill. Eden drew back, his demon eyes now glowing in the dark with the awakening of his demon side, and Eden drew his wings out as fully as he could in the dark alley and hovered just above the ground, ready to dash forward and attack the minute he had the chance. The mercenary leader realized he was dead unless he did something, so he tried for a final thrust on the half-demon. Eden drew back and upward, dodging the blow and placing himself above his enemy. The his flew down and ran him through with both swords, straight through his sides, but missing his heart and lungs so as to let him suffer.
"You fight like a demon."
"Half-demon actually."
And with that, Eden ripped both swords out of him, but out of the opposite sides and sliced him in half.
"Five."
