Ro stood, coming off his knees, raising his head from the ground. It’s come this way recently, he muttered to himself. He was alone and was stalking one of the mutated beasts that crept through the city. Azer had stayed behind to pack there things, and as soon as he killed this monstrous thing they would be off. He needed his wits about him however so thoughts of the Lt. didn’t enter his mind. He kept his concentration entirely on the task at hand. Ro drew Havengrail from its sheath across his back, and proceeded forward with it held out in front off him. His shield was strapped over his other shoulder, and as he moved it rustled up and down on his back. He was moving through an alleyway, blasted windows and collapsing walls to either side of him and, as he came to an abandoned where house with half a wall missing, he stooped low studying more tracks. It was in the building. He sighed frustratedly, stood, and entered the building. As he advanced forward slowly bring each step down with measured distance he could feel water dripping from the ceiling, accumulating in a puddle at his feet. Something creaked behind him, and he spun on his heel, sword raised, to come face to face with what looked like a 20 foot centipede with a stinger. The thing struck down at him bringing its massive head forward with the force of a canon. (Not literally but pretty hard) Ro brought Havengrail up to block the blow but the thing was to strong. Havengrail was knocked out of his hand and clamored onto the floor near the open window. He dove to the side rolling over the ground and bringing his shield down as he did so. He once again turned to face the thing and leapt up into the air bring the sharp point of the shield down hard on the top of its head. No good the shield just glanced of its armored scales. God Damn It! He swore as he fell back. This time the creature attacked with that stinger bashing it forward into his shield. He blocked the attack but the blow sent him flying backwards. As he stumbled to his feet careful to keep sight of the things head the end of the body whipped around struck him through the far wall into the street. He jumped up quickly ready to charge back in when the thing exploded out of the building, breaking through the rest of the wall and some of the ceiling, and landed in front of him. It grabbed him with its agile body and threw him back into the building. He rolled side ways, unintentionally this time, across the floor over to the original entrance he had come through. He came to stop on Havengrail, but instead of getting up he stayed on the ground. He slid the shield over his shoulder and clasped the sword beneath him. If he wanted to kill this thing, he had to time it just right. The thing scrambled over the floor getting closer and closer, yet he did not move. It continued to advance until he leapt up swinging Havengrail around and thrusting it through the fleshy area underneath and behind the head. The thing roared in pain and agony but was not subdued, in fact it started to shriek and flail. Ro conjured up the magic inside him and with an explosive blast started to pump fire up the sword into it. He stood there pushing the sword in farther, and pushing more fire into the sword while the thing flailed in agony bringing down walls, until it collapsed dead. He wretched the sword out of the beast and wiped clean on an old clothe that he found on the floor. Ro sheathed it, and turned away from the thing to leave the building. He was ready. When he got outside however he found a rather unpleasant surprise waiting for him. Apparently mamma and papa bug had come to check up on Jr. And at 40 feet with no fleshy underside, mamma and papa were tough cookies. Ahhh Shit, Ro said loudly and then ran. The two centipede things came crashing after him, knocking over buildings and crushing derelict carts. He couldn’t keep this up for much longer, he was never a natural runner. Suddenly he had an idea, he strayed course and in a few seconds a large cliff came into view. He ran towards it skidding to a stop and going over the edge. Mamma and Papa who had gained too much momentum and couldn’t stop, followed him over. He watched them plummet to the ground from his vantage on the cliff face, his shield buried in the soft earth. As he clambered back up he looked back over the edge and gave a solute. NOW he was ready.
